Oyster farming in R.I. showing some muscle

There are concerns about expanding the farms, including balancing other uses of state waterways and potential environmental effects. H. Perry Jeffries, professor emeritus at the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography who was on the tour, said that high concentrations of oysters could give off enough organic matter to create low-oxygen conditions in the water.
