The event, which is open to the public and free of charge, will begin at 1:00 p.m. and conclude with a question and answer session moderated by Kate Moran, associate dean of oceanography and noted international scientific researcher who is a global climate change expert.
“An Inconvenient Truth” has been making headlines since its release in 2006. It features Gore’s slide show on global warming, and has been a critical and box office success. It has become the third highest grossing documentary in history, raking in more than $24 million.
The Democratic presidential candidate in 2000, Gore told the Associated Press, “The film has brought awareness of the climate crisis to people in the United States and all over the world. I am so grateful to the entire team and pleased that the Academy has recognized their work. This film proves that movies can make a difference. ”
After the movie, Moran will lead a discussion session about some of the questions raised in the film. Her work as an oceanographer has been featured in National Geographic and the New York Times, ranging from being asked to examine the site in the Indian Ocean where the devastating 2004 tsunami arose; and then taking her to the Arctic Ocean where she and her team of scientists made groundbreaking discoveries about the climatic evolution of the Arctic.
