URI women’s ice hockey team to hold golf tourney July 22

KINGSTON, R.I. – July 2, 2013 – The University of Rhode Island women’s ice hockey team will hold its 15th annual golf tournament Monday, July 22 at the Winnapaug Country Club in Westerly. Registration begins at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m.

“We are hoping for your support, either through participation in the tournament, sponsorships or prize donations for our raffle and auction,” said coach Beth McCann.

Such fundraising events are essential to maintaining URI women’s ice hockey as one of the top Division I club teams in the country. The 2012-2013 squad was ranked first in the country during the regular season among all Division 1 club teams, and the Rams have won eight titles in the 10 years of the Eastern Collegiate Women’s Hockey League.

“With ice time and travel costs continuing to increase, this fundraiser has never been more important,” McCann said. “We are grateful to the Student Senate for its partial support of our program, but the remainder of the team’s budget comes from individual dues and efforts like the golf tournament.”

All sponsorship donations are tax deductible and will be processed through the URI Foundation.

Costs for the event are: $560 per foursome, and $140 for individual players. Fees cover golf, cart and dinner. Those interested in dinner only may pay $40.

Sponsorship opportunities are:

• Power Play, $1,000, includes one free foursome, 1 flag, 2 tee signs and a sign on every golf cart.

• Flag, $200, includes sign at a green location with the sponsor’s business name.

• Tee, $100, includes a sign at tee location with sponsor’s business name.

All sponsorship commitments/donations/questions should be directed to coach McCann at cell, 401-369-0492, office, 401-874-9217 or email, mccannurihockey@aol.com
