KINGSTON, R.I. – Dec. 9, 2009 – Interested is developing a better sense of balance, both in the physical sense and in terms of your diet?
The University of Rhode Island’s Department of Kinesiology is looking for obese older women ages 60 to 79 to participate in a Tai Chi and weight-loss intervention study. Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art of stylized, meditative exercise consisting of methodical stretching movements and positions of bodily balance that has shown to be a safe form of low-impact exercise to improve physical functioning in older adults.
The 12-week study begins in January and will meet three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. There also will be a weekly dietary weight-loss session supervised by a registered dietician.
Those interested in participating in the study should contact the URI Department of Kinesiology at 401.874.4956 or email@example.com.
