“Recent catastrophic events around the world have had a significant impact on charitable giving at all levels,” said Beagle, who has been involved in higher education philanthropy for nearly 30 years. “Amid this climate of diverse need, a number of trends and issues have emerged that organizations both small and large need to consider as they set their fundraising goals.”
A graduate of Dickinson College and Penn State University, Beagle served as vice chancellor of the Minnesota State University System and vice president at Edinboro University before accepting his current position at URI in 1991. During his tenure at URI, the University conducted its first comprehensive fundraising campaign, exceeding its goal by $16 million, and three successful building campaigns. The University is currently in the lead gift phase of a $100 million campaign, focused primarily on increasing its endowment.

URI’s online chats, which began in September 2004, have featured question and answer sessions with such alumni as Tom Mulligan, Los Angeles Times senior correspondent discussing the Iraq war, and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ross Kauffman talking about the making of Born into Brothels, as well as with URI administrators, faculty and coaches.
