KINGSTON, R.I. – October 3, 2007 – Christiane Amanpour, chief international correspondent for CNN and a 1983 alumnus of the University of Rhode Island, will answer questions about her experiences as a broadcast journalist during a web chat on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 11 a.m.
Amanpour has conducted exclusive interviews with world leaders, reported from the middle of war zones, and covered the human consequences of natural disasters. She has earned a reputation as one of the world’s most recognized and respected television journalists.
In 2006 Amanpour produced two award-winning documentaries, “Where Have All the Parents Gone,” which focused on the one million children orphaned to AIDS in Kenya, and “In the Footsteps of Bin Laden.” In 2007 she presented an in-depth examination of the growing Islamic unrest in the United Kingdom called “The War Within.” Her work has also been featured in the CNN series “God Warriors,” a documentary exploring religious fundamentalism among Christians, Muslims and Jews.

To enter the chat, go online for instructions . Participants may submit questions in advance, but the chat will not begin until the scheduled date and time. Thirty minutes is the total time allotted for the chat. A full transcript will be posted to the University’s website once the chat has been completed. URI’s online chats, which began September 2004, have featured question-and-answer sessions with such alumni as Tom Mulligan, Los Angeles Times senior correspondent discussing the Iraq war, and Academy Award-winning filmmaker Ross Kaufman talking about the making of Born into Brothels, as well as with URI administrators, faculty and coaches.
