WHO: More than 125 high school students from Providence, Pawtucket, Woonsocket, North Smithfield and Narragansett, along with University of Rhode Island engineering faculty and graduate students, and members of Rhode Island Consulting Engineers.
WHAT: The students will participate in a series of hands-on engineering activities as part of Engineering Career Day at URI. The students will use a software program to design a structurally sound bridge, use surveying equipment to plot site coordinates, learn about storm water management and the materials used to slow or prevent runoff, and manage traffic patterns and flow through use of a traffic engineering software program. The day’s activities are sponsored by the URI Transportation Center, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation, the Federal Highway Administration, Rhode Island Consulting Engineers and the URI College of Engineering.
WHEN: Friday, May 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The best time to cover the program is between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. when the hands-on activities will be taking place.
WHERE: Wales Hall and the Kirk Technology Center, Upper College Road on the URI Kingston Campus.
