The productions, a joint effort by the URI Peer Advocates and the University’s Violence Prevention & Advocacy Services (VPAS), are part of the annual V-Day College Campaign, in which thousands of colleges across the world raise money and awareness for local organizations that work to stop violence against women and girls. This is the fifth year that URI has presented the play.
The play is a compilation of monologues performed by various women that address the issues of violence against women, especially rape, domestic violence and genital mutilation. The play is unorthodox and at times shocking.
Tickets are $7 for URI students and $10 to the general public. Tickets are available at the door or can be reserved in advance by calling 874-9293. Doors open at 7 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the global V-Day campaign and URI’s VPAS.
URI Peer Advocates are a team of specially trained students who provide interactive workshops and programs to educate and increase awareness regarding the issues of dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, date rape and related topics. They also provide advocacy services to victims of these crimes.
