URI to present lecture on gerontology, geriatrics

KINGSTON, R.I. – March 8, 2007 – The Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center and the University of Rhode Island gerontology program will host the Malford Thewlis Lecture on Gerontology and Geriatrics. The talk will take place on Monday, Mar. 12 from 2 to 3 p.m. in Edwards Auditorium, 64 Upper College Road.


Dr. Nancy Fey-Yensan, URI professor of nutrition and food sciences and a gerontological nutritionist, is presenting the lecture, “Healthy Aging: New Directions for Nutrition.” It will cover unique challenges regarding food choices, access, and poverty. Fey-Yensan will discuss their impact on the nutritional status of older adults in Rhode Island and give recommendations for successful aging.


After the lecture, a reception will be held at the URI Alumni Center, 73 Upper College Road from 3 to 4 p.m.
