URI to host Family Weekend Oct. 28-30

KINGSTON, R.I. — October 5, 2005 — The University of Rhode Island’s Kingston Campus will be bursting with excitement at the end of October as thousands flock to Kingston for the annual Family Weekend program, Oct. 28 through 30.

Family Weekend includes a variety of entertaining and educational activities for URI students and their families. Some of the highlights include the opportunity for families to attend classes with their student(s), attend a job and internship fair at the Ryan Center, visit the historic Watson House, and enjoy lots of laughs with comedian Paula Poundstone.

On Saturday morning, families will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss “Parenting in the Millennial Generation,” followed by a host of activities, including tours of the athletic facilities, soccer, field hockey and football games, a post-game reception, and more.

Saturday evening will end with the performance of Paula Poundstone’s one-of-a-kind show. Poundstone has appeared on HBO specials, Late Night with David Letterman, The Tonight Show, Prairie Home Companion, the Rosie O’Donnell show and was a regular on NPR’s “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.” She improvises with a crowd like a jazz musician and is known for her honesty, and an off-kilter view of the world. The cost for this show to be held in Edwards Auditorium is $20 for adults, $10 for URI students and children under age 12.

The weekend concludes on Sunday with the President’s Brunch, ($18 per adult, $10 per child under 12, URI students with ID/meal plan.), a men’s soccer game against UNC-Charlotte at 1 p.m. and a Symphonic Wind Ensemble concert at 3 p.m.
