URI to host Family Weekend Nov. 5-7

KINGSTON, R.I. — Oct. 14, 2003 — The University of Rhode Island’s Kingston Campus will be bursting with excitement the first weekend in November as thousands flock to Kingston for the annual Family Weekend Program, Nov. 5 through Nov. 7.

Family Weekend includes a variety of entertaining and educational activities for URI students and their families. Some of the highlights include the opportunity for families to attend classes with their student(s), and open houses on Friday.

On Saturday morning, families will have the opportunity to learn about the programs and services provided through University College in Roosevelt Hall. The College has designed innovative programs for students both in the classroom and out, including academic learning communities, first year seminars, service learning, peer mentoring, advising, or experiential and international education.

Then it’s on to a tour of the athletic facilities enjoyed by students and community members, a Women’s Gymnastics Team Exhibition, an exciting football game at noon against the University of New Hampshire, a post-game reception, and more.

Saturday evening will end with the performance of the longest-running cast member in the history of Saturday Night Live (SNL), Kevin Nealon. Nealon has appeared in numerous films, made guest appearances on many television series and talk shows, and was an Emmy nominee for SNL writing. The cost for this show to be held in Edwards Auditorium is $20 for adults, $12 for URI students.

The weekend concludes on Sunday with the President’s Brunch, ($18 per adult, $10 per child under 12) and a men’s soccer game against Brown University at 1 p.m. This game will also be televised on Cox Communications’ Channel 3.
