URI to host Adm. Robert Girrier for tour of GSO, Inner Space Center with explorer Ballard, May 27

Event is part of Rhode Island Navy Week


WHO: Rear Admiral Robert Girrier, deputy commander of the U.S. Pacific Fleet and a URI alumnus; Bruce Corliss, dean of the URI Graduate School of Oceanography; marine explorer and URI Oceanography Professor Robert Ballard; and Dwight Coleman, director of the URI Inner Space Center.


WHAT: Adm. Girrier will attend a series of briefings about URI oceanography and ocean engineering activities and tour the Bay Campus before visiting the Inner Space Center, the high-tech facility that broadcasts live images of deep sea explorations to URI. He will then meet with Ballard, who created the Center, and Corliss to discuss issues of mutual interest.


WHEN: Wednesday, May 27 from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The briefings will take place from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by a driving tour of the Bay Campus. The Inner Space Center tour begins at 2:30.


WHERE: The Ocean Science and Exploration Center at the Graduate School of Oceanography, 15 Pier Rd., on the URI Bay Campus in Narragansett.
