The Dinner With Strangers program is a networking event at which URI alumni open their homes to students for dinner and conversation. Students from all career fields are matched with alumni and peers with similar interests to discuss their options after graduation.
This year, approximately 10 families will invite students into their homes. Already, 80 students have registered to participate.
For the past two years, long-time University supporters, Gary and Audrey Kullberg, have hosted dinners at their home to interact directly with students and to help prepare students for life after graduation.
“As two people invested in the University, the program is a nice way to monitor the quality of the students that URI is educating,” Audrey Kullberg said. “We’ve enjoyed all of the students that we met. They were poised and articulate, and we were impressed by their academic achievements and involvement on and off campus.”
Kullberg said the program is a great opportunity for students to meet new people and voice any concerns they may have about the future.
“The more positive and negative experiences a student has, the more learning takes place,” Kullberg said, “The more people you meet, the more opportunity you have to be intrigued or excited about new things.”
