URI students to watch alumnus Mat Franco on TV tonight as he competes on America’s Got Talent

WHAT: Viewing party to watch 2010 URI alumnus Mat Franco perform his magic on America’s Got Talent. Franco, who has earned nothing but praise from the judges, is well known to thousands of URI students since he has been performing for freshman orientation classes since he was a student. He last performed for the current freshman class this summer.


BACKGROUND: Franco, a Newport resident who grew up in Johnston, graduated with a degree in marketing from URI’s College of Business Administration. He competes tonight to earn a spot in the finals. The program airs from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. on NBC 10. Franco was Named 2013’s Best Male Performer by Campus Activities Magazine. Those who attend the viewing party will enjoy free popcorn and other appetizers, have a chance to win a Mat Franco cutout and watch the show on four large-screen televisions. The viewing party is being sponsored by New Student Programs in URI’s University College for Academic Success, the Office of the Provost and Dining Services.


WHEN: Tonight, Sept. 2, 9 to 11.
