URI ship Endeavor to depart for Haiti, Feb. 17, for scientific, humanitarian mission

WHO: The captain and crew of the URI research vessel Endeavor, along with URI faculty, administrators, and students, and staff of the children’s charity Plan USA.


WHAT: The Endeavor will depart for Haiti to conduct a 14-day scientific survey of the seafloor off the coast of Port-au-Prince to seek geologic evidence of the earthquake that struck the region in January. The ship will also deliver dozens of large tents collected by Warwick-based Plan USA for use as classroom shelters and safe zones for children in the affected region.


WHEN: Wednesday, February 17. Well-wishers will gather beginning at about 1:30 p.m., and the ship will depart at about 2 p.m.


WHERE: The dock at the URI Bay Campus in Narragansett.
