URI seeks Distinguished Achievement Award nominees

KINGSTON, R.I. –January 30, 2008 –The University of Rhode Island seeks nominees for its Distinguished Achievement Awards.

This is the third year of the awards program, which honors alumni and friends of the University who have brought distinction to themselves and the University through their professional achievements, outstanding leadership and/or community service.

The deadline for nominations is Feb. 29. The third annual Distinguished Achievement Awards ceremony will be held Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Providence Westin Hotel.

Award recipients are selected by a committee of representatives from URI’s colleges, the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, the Division of University Advancement, the Department of Athletics, the Alumni Association and the graduate and undergraduate student body.

“We encourage members of the URI community to nominate those individuals who have brought honor to the University and themselves from just about any profession and career path,” said Robert Beagle, vice president for University Advancement. “We’re also looking for nominees who have been selfless in their commitment to serving their communities.”

The past two events were wonderful celebrations for the University, Beagle said. “It’s a night of glamour and excitement that gives us a chance to celebrate the entire University and its people.”
