KINGSTON, R.I. — April 6, 2000 — The Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center will present “Workshop II, Risk Management in Geriatrics: Legal and Ethical Issues” at the URI Feinstein College of Continuing Education in Providence, on Friday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will take place in the distance learning lab and be transmitted to the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. The workshop will feature presentations on basic ethical issues and values in professional codes of ethics. Lawyers in Rhode Island and Maine will discuss the legal dimensions of caring for the elderly. Questions will be addressed by a clinical panel and members of the center’s faculty will present an interdisciplinary perspective of a case study, followed by small group discussions. The registration fee, which includes materials, continuing education units/continuing medical education credits, lunch, refreshments, and parking, is $85. Registration is requested by April 21. Three or more individuals from the same agency who register and submit payment together will receive a $15-per-person discount. The Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center, located at the University of Rhode Island, offers a Certificate in Interdisciplinary Practice in Geriatrics upon completion of five workshops and two advanced practice seminars. These programs do not need to be taken in sequence. Continuing education credits are available to nurses, nursing home administrators, pharmacists, physicians, and social workers. Other health care professionals are encouraged to attend as well. The Rhode Island Geriatric Education Center is a consortium of the URI Colleges of Nursing, Pharmacy, and Human Science and Services, Rhode Island College School of Social Work, Brown University School of Medicine, and Aging 2000.
