URI Providence campus to host open house events for biotechnology manufacturing program

Sessions to be held May 4 and 6

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – April 20, 2015 – Students interested in learning more about the growing field of biotechnology and the University of Rhode Island’s biotechnology manufacturing program are invited to attend an open house on May 4 at 5 p.m. or May 6 at 10 a.m.

The sessions will be held in room 207 at URI’s Feinstein Providence Campus, 80 Washington Street, Providence.

Launched in 2003, the biotechnology manufacturing curriculum is an intensive bachelor’s degree program designed to prepare students to work in this important industry. Students start the program with a full-time class load in Providence for two semesters followed by a summer internship at an area biotech company. Coursework includes biology, microbiology, chemistry, biotechnology and physiology.

Following the internship, some students choose to obtain full-time employment in the industry while completing their degree on a part-time basis. Others work part-time and continue their biotechnology education either part time or full time.

Whether entering the program directly from high school, returning to start a second career or requiring additional training, the program offers something for students from a wide range of age and educational backgrounds.
