URI Providence Campus to host Juanita Sanchez High School students for Amgen Biotechnology Experience workshop, May 8

WHO: Students from Juanita Sanchez High School in Providence, along with URI biotechnology professors and representatives of biotech company Amgen.


WHAT: The students will participate in hands-on biotechnology activities through the Amgen Biotechnology Experience, an educational program funded by Amgen. Four students have been trained to lead the program for their fellow students, which will include a laboratory exercise with E. coli. The Amgen Foundation recently renewed funding for URI to offer the program through 2017. Since the program was launched in 2007, URI has presented the program to more than 4,000 students from 40 schools in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.


WHERE: Room 302 of the URI Providence Campus, 80 Washington St., Providence.


WHEN: Friday, May 8 from 9 to 11:30 a.m.
