URI Providence Campus to host biotech speakers for career exploration

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – June 2, 2015 – Are you thinking about a career in biotechnology? Are you interested in meeting local professionals in the industry? Then you are invited to come to a special workshop at the University of Rhode Island’s Feinstein Providence Campus where you can interact with industry experts, meet former URI students now working in the industry, and learn about URI’s biotechnology manufacturing program.

The event will take place on Tuesday, June 9 at 5 p.m. in room 302 of the Providence campus, 80 Washington St., Providence.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone with an interest in biotechnology – from high school students to those thinking about a career change — to learn about the industry and get a sense for whether it may be a good fit,” said Greg Paquette, director of biotechnology and medical laboratory programs in the URI Department of Cell and Molecular Biology.

Among the speakers are James Vogel from The BioProcess Institute, Andrew Chappell of Baxter Laboratories, Ivan Gajic from Avecia and Stephanie Hernandez at Siemens. Participants will also tour URI’s Providence Biotechnology Center.
