URI plans celebration, send-off for the Atlantic 10 Champions

KINGSTON, R.I. — March 8, 1999 — Those who want to catch even more Ram fever following Saturday’s URI championship win in the Atlantic 10 Tourney will want to be on the Kingston Campus on Tuesday. On Tuesday, March 9 at 12:30 p.m., students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends who proudly wear the Rhody Blue will want to join Gov. Lincoln C. Almond, URI’s first alumnus; President Robert L. Carothers, coach Jim Harrick, the members of the men’s basketball team, the URI Pep Band and cheerleaders in a celebration of URI’s first Atlantic 10 men’s basketball title. The rally will be held in the Rams Den in the Memorial Union. Fans will also be wishing the team good luck as it prepares for its NCAA first-round game against North Carolina-Charlotte in Milwaukee on Friday, March 12. “We’d love to have a wonderful crowd here tomorrow to thank the players for this historic achievement, and cheer them on to the NCAA tourney,” Carothers said. “Come be inspired by a team that has taught us all lessons about courage and perseverance, and reaching a goal. The goal was to win the Atlantic 10 championship, and that’s what they did. We encourage all our students, alumni and friends to join us for this on-campus celebration.” For Further Information: Steve Blake 401-874-4313 Dave Lavallee 401-874-2116
