Farmer is the dean of the URI Graduate School of Oceanography and the former senior scientist at the Institute for Ocean Sciences in British Columbia. He has conducted research on such topics as acoustical oceanography, oceanography of straits and coastal waters, air-sea gas exchange, and sea-ice mechanics.
Moran is assistant dean of the Graduate School of Oceanography and studies marine geotechnics, paleoceanography, and seafloor stability. She led the first scientific expedition to the epicenter of the underwater earthquake that triggered the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and she also led a team of scientists who collected a 50 million year record of climate changes from a sediment core beneath the North Pole.
