Delta Upsilon is the URI Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, a prestigious organization of nurse leaders, scholars and researchers. The honor society, founded at Indiana University in 1922, has 431 chapters at 515 college and university campuses worldwide. The honor society is committed to improving the health of the public by advancing nursing science.
Membership in the society is awarded to bachelors’, masters’ and doctoral candidates who achieve high scholastic averages, and to graduates of nursing programs who have made outstanding leadership contributions to nursing.
URI senior Beatrix Mattyasovsky of Wakefield and URI graduate student Jean Salera of Cranston were each awarded the Delta Upsilon Chapter Scholarship in addition to being inducted into the honor society.
The Francine Brem Award, given to the student that exemplifies passion for pediatric nursing, was awarded to senior Nicole Graham of Johnston.
URI Nursing Professor Jean Miller of West Kingston received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
