KINGSTON, R.I. — November 23, 2005 — Visitors to the University of Rhode Island Library on the Kingston Campus will find the gallery walls full of emotion as they present “Bringing Thoughts to the Light.”

The exhibit will feature Hope Valley artist Rick Devin’s acrylic paintings and soft sculpture from Nov. 28 through Dec. 23, 2005. Free and open to the public, the gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to midnight; Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Sunday 1 p.m. to midnight.

“I have arranged my work in a loose chronological order so the viewer may follow the thread of my thoughts,” Devin said in his artist’s statement. “Some may seem frayed, but there is order somewhere in the chaos. Each piece was created at a certain moment in my life and tries to convey where my mind was at that moment in time.”

There are a number of recurring themes in his work, including moons, clocks and faces. Devin said he views these images as a constantly changing object and a one- of- a- kind look.

Working as a full time artist and designer since 1970, Devin has directed the Wickford Art Festival, designed sets for various performances, published a book of drawings and taught art at the Institute de Manifikat in Jeremie, Haiti. Devin received his teaching certificate from URI in 1980 and his Bachelor of Arts in environmental design from Pointe Park College in Pittsburgh in 1970.
