The program will be offered Tuesdays through Fridays from Oct. 20 to Nov. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $7 per student.
Students participating in the Learning Landscape program use all of their senses to explore the world’s ecosystems and learn about the plants and wildlife that inhabit southern New England. Topics such as seed diversity, native birds and mammals, worms and decomposers, and insects and invaders are presented in a fun and age-appropriate format. Students have the opportunity to plant their own seeds and even feed a venus fly trap.
Scholarships from the Master Gardener Foundation of Rhode Island are available for Title 1 and Providence elementary schools.
Learning Landscape field trips can accommodate groups of 15 to 60 students.
The deadline for applying for scholarships for fall field trips is Oct. 20. For more information, teachers should call (401) 874-7142, email vventurini@mail.uri.edu or visit www.uri.edu/cels/ceoc.
