URI hosts Family Weekend Nov. 2–4

KINGSTON, R.I. — October 31, 2001 — The University of Rhode Island’s Kingston Campus will be bursting with excitement the first weekend in November as thousands flock to Kingston for the annual Family Weekend Program, on Nov. 2–4.

The URI Family Weekend Planning Committee has scheduled a variety of entertaining and educational activities for URI students and their families.

Some of the highlights include the opportunity for families to attend classes with their student, and open houses on Friday. On Saturday, The Main Event will shine on “Partners in Crime and Detection,” a program that will give families an inside look at how science solves mysteries through the work of URI’s interdisciplinary Sensors and Surface Technology and Forensic Science Partnerships. Then it’s on to lunch at a barbecue outside Keaney Gym, an exciting football game at Noon against the University of Maine, a post-game reception, and more. Saturday evening, hundreds already have signed up to attend a Multicultural Dinner Cabaret at the Memorial Union at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Seventh Annual Fall Choral Festival at 7. The evening will end with a concert by the Coasters and the Drifters in Edwards Auditorium at 8 p.m.

The weekend concludes on Sunday with the President’s Brunch and an afternoon Women’s Soccer game vs. Dayton.

This year, there are two registration options: The All-inclusive $30 Blue Card option covers eight events valued at over $50 value. Children under 12 and adults over 65 pay $15. The Brunch-only White Card option is $15 for all. Registration is required. Football game tickets are not included. The concert with the Coasters and the Drifters is also open to the public. Tickets for the concert are $15 at the door on a space-available basis.

For a detailed schedule of all events and registration materials, please contact the Student Activities Office at 401-874-2726.
