KINGSTON, R.I. — September 14, 2006 — The University of Rhode Island will present a smorgasbord of sketch comedy on the Kingston campus this month. The Late Night Players improv comedy group will perform on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Edwards Auditorium, on Upper College Rd. The performance is free and open to the public.

The Boston-based comedy group features four men — Aaron, Seth, Andrew, and Zach — who “tackle life in the 24-hour-information age with a revue of comedy sketches, mixing brainy, sharply-observed social commentary with a healthy dose of escapist absurdity.”

Sponsored by Hillel, the Jewish Student Center at URI with support from URI Housing and Residential Life, the show is a featured presentation of URI’s 10th Annual Diversity Week.

Having played at college campuses and other venues throughout the country. Their act includes skits, music, slide shows, and an astonishing dance-off. The group says it takes pride in the fact that they customize every single show they perform and will do the same for this one as part of the University’s diversity week.

Andrew Slack, Seth Reibstein, Aaron Kagan, and Zach Sherwin are the Late Night Players. Friends since their undergraduate days at Brandeis University, the group performs intelligent, socially critical comedy around the country at clubs, theaters, corporate functions, and comedy festivals.

The Late Night Players’ comedy has been featured on Myspace.com and AOL Comedy, and the group has shared the stage with such luminaries as William Shatner, the Sklar Brothers (ESPN, Comedy Central) and Demitri Martin (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart). A documentary about the Late Night Players will screen at the International Independent Film Festival in New York in this fall.
