Professor of Pharmaceutics to discuss forensic tests on marijuana at


KINGSTON, R.I. – March 30 2007 – University of Mississippi Professor of Pharmaceutics Mahmoud ElSohly will speak at the University of Rhode Island Forensic Science Seminar on Friday, April 6. The event will be held from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in Pastore Hall, 51 Lower College Road, Room 124 and is free and open to the public.


ElSohly’s talk, entitled “Marijuana in Forensics,” will discuss the issues surrounding positive test results for marijuana. He will cover strategies such as passive inhalation and unknowing ingestion, and why these defenses will or will not hold up in court.


ElSohly has a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Cairo and a doctorate in natural products chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. He has been the director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse marijuana project since1980.
