URI fall music season to end with Brass Ensemble Concert, Dec. 14

KINGSTON, R.I. – December 3, 2013 – The final concert presented by the University of Rhode Island Department of Music for the fall semester will feature the URI Brass Ensemble on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. in the URI Fine Arts Center Concert Hall, 105 Upper College Road, Kingston. The concert is free and open to the public.


The URI Brass Quintet, featuring Chelsea Anderson and Manny Morales (trumpet), Ciara Dawson (horn), Tyler Barboza (trombone), and Claire Leath (euphonium), will perform Christmas Time Is Here, by Vince Guaraldi; Horn Concerto No. 3, 3rd movement by Mozart; and What a Wonderful World by George David Weiss and Bob Thiele, all three arranged by Gary Slechta, plus Amparito Roca, a Spanish March for Brass Quintet by Jaime Texidor Dalmau.

In addition, Jeff Mandler (horn), Chelsea Anderson (trumpet), and Tyler Barboza (trombone), will play the first three movements of Sonata for Horn, Trumpet, and Trombone by Francis Poulenc, and the Tuba Euphonium Ensemble. Students in the Brass Ensemble are coached by guest artists/teachers Jaime Thorne (French Horn) and Gary Buttery (Tuba).
