URI faculty, students to lead ornithology field trip for Providence 8th graders at East Side cemetery, May 23

WHO: 82 eighth graders from the Paul Cuffee School in Providence, their teacher Katie Alvarez, URI Professor Scott McWilliams and URI student mentors


WHAT: The students will learn about bird migration and climate change through a series of hands-on activities, including the capture and banding of migratory songbirds, during a field trip to Swan Point Cemetery, Rhode Island’s most popular birdwatching hotspot during spring migration.


WHEN: Monday, May 23, from 9 to 11:30 a.m.


WHERE: Swan Point Cemetery, Blackstone Blvd., Providence. After driving through the main entrance, turn left, and the activities will be visible from the roadway adjacent to the forested area on the left.
