KINGSTON, R.I. — Oct. 17, 2000 — Two University of Rhode Island economics professors will present a discussion on the Nobel Prize in Economics Monday, Oct. 23 in the Galanti Lounge of the University Library. The panel discussion by Professors John Burkett and James Starkey will run from noon to 1 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The two will discuss: • The history and significance of the prize • The contributions of Nobel Prize winner James J. Heckman to methods for analysis of selective samples and unobserved variables, with applications to labor markets and public policy. • The contributions of Nobel Prize winner Daniel L.
