URI Dance Company presents fall recital “Lights, Camera, ACTION!”

KINGSTON, R.I. – December 5, 2013 – The members of the University of Rhode Island’s Dance Company have been perfecting their technique since the beginning of the semester and are now ready to showcase their skills in their annual semester recital.

With experience in tap, ballet, lyrical, jazz, hip hop and pointe, the members will take the stage in Edwards Hall Sunday Dec. 8 at 2 p.m. for their movie-inspired show “Lights, Camera, ACTION!”

With movies being the theme for this semester, the dancers will perform to scores from The Great Gatsby, Donnie Darko, and Pitch Perfect.

“URI has so many talented individuals on its campus and our recital showcases those whose talents are related to dance. Our dancers have put a lot of hard work and dedication into these performances and they’re ready to show you their stuff! Come support the URI Dance Company this Sunday!” said President Melanie Tomlinson, a senior human development and family studies major.

Tickets can be purchased at the entrance to the auditorium when the doors open at 1:15 p.m. on the day of the show. They are $3 for students and $5 for the public. Children under 5 get in for free!

There will be a toy drive for Children’s Friends at the recital, a non-profit child welfare organization and a leading provider of child welfare, family support, mental health, and child development services. There is no charge for admission for anyone who brings a toy donation.

The URI Dance Company provides students with the opportunity to keep dancing and performing. Along with recitals, the Dance Company has performed at Rhody Rally, President Dooley’s Welcome Ceremony, and Rhodyville. They do not hold auditions and everyone is welcome to join. Classes are held on Monday and Thursday nights from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Edwards Hall.
