URI Computer Science, Statistics Department training more than 60 teachers this week

WHO: More than 60 Rhode Island middle and high school teachers from across the state and professors from the University of Rhode Island’s Department of Computer Science and Statistics.

WHAT: URI is presenting Code.org training for Rhode Island teachers to deliver a high-quality and challenging computer science curriculum to their students. This week’s training program is part of URI’s K-12 Computer Science program and the CS4RI state-wide initiative. The professional development programs include Computer Science Discoveries, grades 6 through 10 and Advanced Placement Computer Science Principles (APCSP), grades 9 through 12. Following the training, students in the APCSP high school classrooms will have the opportunity to earn free URI Concurrent Enrollment Credit. See below for complete list of schools participating.

WHEN: The training program runs throughout the week, and members of the media are invited to attend the Friday, July 26 session, from 8:30 to 10 a.m., during which time workshops will be conducted by URI and Code.org staff. Teachers will be available for interviews from 10 to 10:30 a.m.
