URI College of Nursing to dedicate heritage library in honor of alumna

Narragansett resident to be honored for

‘courage, commitment and caring’


WHO: Betsy Nield, professor emerita of medical-surgical nursing at the Community College of Rhode Island who earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from URI; Dayle Joseph, dean of the URI College of Nursing, M. Patricia B. Quigley, president of the local chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International nursing honor society and Sandra Zion, co-chair of the society’s Heritage Committee.


WHAT: The Betsy Nield Nursing Heritage Library, honoring her commitment to the ideals of Sigma Theta Tau through her support of the learning, knowledge and professional development of nurses. Unwavering in her dedication to the Nursing Heritage Program, Nield was joined by friend and colleague, Sandra Zion, who shared her vision and commitment to the heritage program and the creation of the library at the College of Nursing. The library houses numerous items chronicling the history of nursing in the state.
