URI announces READ/WRITE schedule

KINGSTON, R.I. – October 15, 2008 — The University of Rhode Island English Department announces the fall schedule for its annual READ/WRITE reading series. All events are free and open to the public. A reception will follow each reading.


The readings will be held in the Hoffmann Room 154, Swan Hall (formerly Independence Hall), 60 Upper College Road, Kingston. For more information, call 401.874.5931.

The Poetry of Gitahi Gititi

Gitahi Gititi is a professor of English, comparative literature, film media studies, and African and African studies at URI. His literary and creative work has appeared in numerous national and international publications. He is a poet, short fiction writer, and multilingual translator. His most recent translations include Mwangi wa Mutahi’s NGOIMA’S STORY (a novel) and his Gikuyu-language poetry in METAMORHOSES 2. He is currently working on a manuscript titled OUR SCATTERED LIVES, from which he will be reading a sample.


Josie Campbell, a professor of English, Women’s Studies, and comparative literature who is also the director of Graduate English Studies, will introduce Gititi.
