“Many of our students complete their academic careers with a good mix of classroom knowledge and workplace experience through internships or part-time jobs,” said Carolyn Thomas, the Assistant Director of Career Services. “This makes them competitive candidates that employers seek out, even in a tough job market.”
The event schedule is:
Oct. 4, a Graduate School Fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Memorial Union, 50 Lower College Road. College students and alumni are welcome to meet with representatives from graduate and professional schools.
Oct. 19, an Engineering and Technology Job Fair will be held in the Ryan Center, 1 Lincoln Almond Plaza, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This event targets engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics and other technical majors. It is co-sponsored by Career Services, the College of Engineering, and Theta Tau, the URI Student Professional Engineering Society. Students and alumni in technical disciplines are welcome.
Nov. 8, the annual Fall Internship and Job Fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom. This event is an opportunity for students and alumni to conveniently meet with potential employers, offering paid and credit internships, and part-time, full-time, and summer jobs.
Nov. 14, URI Career Services and the College of Nursing will sponsor the Nursing Job Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in White Hall, 2 Heathman Road. Representatives in health care, physical therapy, and hospital administration from clinics, hospitals, nursing homes, and community groups throughout Rhode Island and southeastern New England will attend. The event is open to students and alumni in nursing and other healthcare fields.
Additional recruitment and career events open only to URI students include a Pharmacy Interview Day, an Accounting Night, an online “Tell Me About Yourself” video contest sponsored by Walgreens, and an “Intern, Work and Volunteer Abroad” Networking Luncheon. In addition, employers may set up one-on-one campus interviews at the Career Services office.
Fall career events will end Nov. 16 with a Power Networking presentation in the Memorial Union Atrium from 4 to 6 p.m. This interactive presentation sponsored by Amica Mutual Insurance Co. centers around the concept of “Who knows you?” Gail Alofsin, a URI Communication Studies faculty member and President of Authentic Measurable Performance, will facilitate the event.
