University of Rhode Island holds Hazardous Waste Site Investigation training drill, April 29 on Kingston campus

WHAT:            The University of Rhode Island will hold a Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response final examination and training drill on the Kingston campus. No hazardous materials will be used in the drills, but the exercise areas will be cordoned off by yellow caution tape and signs to designate two separate mock hazardous waste site investigations. Students and instructors will be dressed in full chemical suits and respiratory protection. Simulated/dummy hazardous materials and waste drums will be scattered to simulate an emergency event. Emergency vehicles will be parked close by.

This training exercise will involve various activities in areas on the east and west sides of the Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences, 120 Flagg Road.  There will also be some activity in the lower level of CBLS (e.g., the CBLS loading dock and Dunkin Donuts area).  Operations centers/command posts will be set up in 105 Avedisian Hall  (Pharmacy)  and on the 4th floor of the CBLS building.  URI Public Safety and the Kingston Fire Department are aware of this activity.
