The University Chorus, URI’s largest vocal ensemble, is made up of students and faculty of the University as well as members of the greater Southern Rhode Island community, and all are welcome and invited to sing. The only cost for singers is the price of music and community members are encouraged to consider participating. Rehearsals are held each Tuesday night at 7 pm, in the rehearsal hall (room C-100) of the URI Fine Arts Center.
The chorus is directed by Andrew Howell, who serves on the board of directors of the Chorus of Westerly and was the first graduate of URI’s Master of Music program in Choral Conducting Performance in 2005. He also specialized in Organ Performance, studying under George Kent. Howell is organist for the Anglican Singers, organist and choir director at St. James Episcopal Church in New London, Connecticut, and during the summer at plays at the Watch Hill Chapel in Westerly, Rhode Island.
