University Chorus invites new voices to join, September 13, 20

KINGSTON, R.I. – September 7, 2011 – The University of Rhode Island’s University Chorus, a non-auditioned student and community chorus of 80 to 100 singers, begins its fall season with two open rehearsals at 7 p.m. on September 13 and 20. Singers of all voice types are invited to attend either or both sessions at the Fine Arts Center at 105 Upper College Road, Kingston. The URI Music Department is handicap-accessible, and parking is available in the lot behind the Fine Arts Center, off Bills Road.

University Chorus meets Tuesday nights from 7–9:45 p.m. while URI is in session. There is no cost to sing in this ensemble beyond the purchase of the semester’s music. All are welcome and no commitment is necessary.

University Chorus is the largest vocal ensemble at the university and performs a varied repertoire several times each year. Director Andrew Howell was the first graduate of URI’s Master of Music program in Choral Conducting Performance. He is also organist and choir director at St. James Episcopal Church in New London, CT, organist for the Anglican Singers, and plays at the Watch Hill Chapel in Westerly.
