TV’s Food Network focuses on URI’s W. Alton Jones campers

KINGSTON, R.I. — June 29, 2006 — University of Rhode Island 1987 theatre alumnus Jim O’Connor, host of the Food Network’s “The Secret Life of…” recently spent a day at URI’s W. Alton Jones Campus to film a segment for the television show.

The crew filmed six campers and two counselors at Woodvale Farm Day Camp on Saturday, June 24. The children harvested strawberries and rhubarb to make strawberry ice cream and strawberry rhubarb crisp. The kids also interacted with the goats, fed and watered the sheep, visited the cows, and collected eggs from the chicken coop. In the afternoon, the campers made cornbread, zucchini bread, and strawberry rhubarb crisp.

The W. Alton Jones segment will be one of three vignettes featuring camping on the 30-minute show. For more about the camp, click on Alton Jones Summer Day Camp.
