The Providence Journal, The Public’s Radio, URI to present U.S. Senate debate Oct. 20

WHO: U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, the incumbent Democrat, and Robert G. Flanders, the Republican candidate, will answer questions from a panel of journalists. Ian Donnis, The Public’s Radio political reporter; Michael McDermott, Providence Journal managing editor; and Julia Moro, a URI sophomore and news editor of the URI student newspaper, The Good Five Cent Cigar, will question the candidates.

WHAT: The debate, which is open to the public, is sponsored by The Providence Journal, The Public’s Radio and the University. The radio station will air the forum live. The Journal, The Public’s Radio and URI will stream the event live online. Find the URI stream at stream.uri.edu.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m. Welcoming remarks begin promptly at 5:45 p.m., so media must be in the auditorium no later than 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: Edwards Hall, 64 Upper College Road on URI’s Kingston Campus. Media is asked to park in Tucker Lot, Lot 3 (B-6 on the map). From Route 138, take Upper College Road to Campus Avenue where there is a sign for the Catholic Center. Take a right onto Chapel Way and then the next right into the lot.
