Speakers include staff or volunteers from the Rhode Island Rose Society, New England Hosta Society, the Daylily Society, New England Carnivorous Plant Society, New England Bonsai Gardens, Rhode Island Wild Plant Society, the Rhode Island Tree Council, Orchids of Wickford, the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center, and the URI Master Gardeners.
“Early spring is the perfect time to gather new ideas on how to start a new garden or improve an existing one, and this is a great event to help you do just that,” said Rosanne Sherry, URI Master Gardener coordinator and organizer of the workshop.
One highlight of the event will be a panel discussion about the newly opened Botanical Center at Roger Williams Park in Providence. Providence Parks Superintendent Alix Ogden, URI Extension and Outreach Center Director Marion Gold, Botanical Center Landscape Architect Mary Ellen Flanagan and Botanical Center Program Manager Jo-Ann Bouley will outline the vision for the Center, provide a photo tour, and discuss upcoming programs and volunteer opportunities.
Other sessions include discussions of Gardening with Children, Orchid Culture, Gardening with Wildflowers, Dallying in Daylilies, and an introduction to bonsai called Not Just Karate Kid Juniper.
Registrants are invited to bring a cup of soil from their garden for testing.
