KINGSTON, R.I.- March 15, 2007- The Women’s Studies Program at the University of Rhode Island is now accepting applications for Eleanor M. and Oscar M. Carlson Endowed Scholarships for Single Mothers for the 2007-2008 academic year.

Thanks to the generosity of the late Eleanor M. Carlson, the scholarship provides full in-state tuition and a book allowance to women who are single parents with one or more dependent children. They must be head of households.

Preference will be given to qualified undergraduates who meet one or more of the following criteria: candidates who have followed a non-traditional educational track, candidates who demonstrate financial need, candidates in good academic standing, Rhode Island residents, or candidates pursuing a major or minor in women’s studies.
