PROVIDENCE, R.I. — February 6, 2006 — The University of Rhode Island Feinstein Providence Campus will hold a roundtable discussion to explore issues related to the current exhibit, “Americans Who Tell the Truth.” Free and open to the public, the event will be held at noon on Feb. 10 in the Paff Auditorium at the campus, located at 80 Washington St. in Providence.

WJAR Channel 10 political reporter Bill Rappleye will moderate the discussion. The panelists will include Robert Dilworth, URI professor of art; Cynthia Hamilton, URI professor of African-American studies; Rhett S. Jones, Brown University professor of Africana Studies; Alexia Kosmidir, English instructor at URI’s Feinstein Providence Campus; and Daniel Scott, Rhode Island College professor of English literature and African American studies.

The discussion will include such topics as: what it means to be a “patriot,” and what responsibilities Americans have to the nation and to one another regarding such issues as social justice, human rights, equal rights and civil rights.

The exhibit, “Americans Who Tell The Truth,” features the works of nationally known artist, Robert Shetterly. The display, which he started just after 9/11, includes portraits of Americans who are “individuals who put themselves on the line, stood up for human rights issues, and made the United States a stronger nation,” according to the artist.
