Research, innovation to be showcased at Discovery@URI event, April 13

WHO: URI President David Dooley, R.I. Economic Development Corp. Director Keith Stokes, URI Vice President for Research Peter Alfonso, URI Graduate School Dean Nasser Zawia, R.I. Manufacturing Extension Service CEO Leslie Taito, AS220 Artistic Director Umberto Crenca, OncoMed Pharmaceuticals President Paul Hastings, along with faculty and students from the University of Rhode Island.


WHAT: Discovery@URI, an event to showcase the intellectual productivity of faculty and students at the University of Rhode Island and demonstrate how that work can contribute to economic development. The event features a keynote presentation by Keith Stokes on the role of university research as a driver of economic development; a panel discussion about how to translate research into jobs and start-up companies; and an exhibit of posters illustrating 100 research projects by URI faculty and students.


WHEN: Wednesday, April 13, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Keynote presentation by Keith Stokes begins at 11:15 a.m., followed by panel discussion at 11:45 a.m. Exhibit of research projects runs from 12:30 to 3 p.m.


WHERE: The Carothers Library, 15 Lippitt Rd., on the URI Kingston campus.
