Publisher of Rhode Island Monthly to speak at PR Summit, April 20

KINGSTON, R.I. –April 6, 2009–Recognized community leader and University of Rhode Island 1976 journalism graduate, John J. Palumbo, president and publisher of Rhode Island Monthly, will share his expertise with students. His talk “So You Want to be in Media—What Next?” is part of URI’s PR Summit series. His lecture, free and open to the public, will be held Monday, April 20 at 3 p.m. at the Alumni Center, 73 Upper College Road, Kingston.

As publisher and president of Rhode Island Monthly, the North Providence resident oversees a well-received publication known for illuminating our state’s diverse culture and idiosyncrasies.

Palumbo’s strategic leadership style has earned him the trust of the business community. He is frequently called upon to chair significant events in the state.

“Anytime we can give students the chance to meet and talk with experts here in our state, the better prepared they become. Our goal as educators should be to give our students a thorough, practical base of knowledge but also to do whatever we can to help them establish career relationships, particularly in this competitive environment,” said Robert Beagle, vice president for University Advancement.

“We at URI appreciate the support of John Palumbo as we encourage students to develop a career path in preparation for their careers,” said Regina A. Bell, director of the Public Relations Program in URI’s Communication Studies Department.
