PROVIDENCE, R.I. — October 15, 2010 — The URI Feinstein Providence Campus will present an exhibit and original play that explore sexual and gender identity and the revolutionary action of “coming out.” The arts and culture event entitled “Coming Out: The Art & Politics of Gender & Sexuality,” will be held until Oct. 29.
Written and directed by Frank V. Toti, Jr., The Journey Out will premiere as part of the “Coming Out” event. The unique play from oral histories of older Lesbian Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered Rhode Islanders will be performed Oct. 22-23 at 7:30 pm and Oct. 24 at 4 pm. According to URI Providence Campus Coordinator of Urban Arts and Culture Steven Pennell, the exhibit and performance pieces consider and explore several questions and issues faced by members of the LGBTQ community. All exhibits and events are free and open to the public and will be held at the URI Providence Campus, 80 Washington Street, Providence.
