Project Runway brings style to Edwards Auditorium

KINGSTON, R.I. – February 10, 2011 – Fashion trends and styles are all the rage as Fashion Week 2011 kicks off in New York City today.

While the world is talking about the latest looks for fall and winter, two of the most recognizable names in the industry will be at the University of Rhode Island next week discussing their own fashion careers. URI’s Student Entertainment Committee will host The Stars of Project Runway: Seth Aaron Henderson and Mondo Guerra in Edwards Auditorium Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Guerra – pictured with Congresswoman and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi on World AIDS Days in December – became a fan favorite during season eight of Runway, thanks to his designs and his candor. Though he was the runner up during his season, he provided one of the season’s memorable moments when he revealed that he is HIV-positive, a secret he had kept for 10 years.

Since Runway, the Denver native has combined fashion and AIDS activism. His visit to URI comes just two days before he will launch The Pozitivity Project, an HIV/AIDS awareness campaign that he is collaborating on with the Colorado AIDS Project.

Henderson won season 7 of Runway, taking home the $100,000 prize, an editorial feature in Marie Claire and a $50,000 technology suite from Hewlett-Packard to create, design, and run his business.

Since his success on the show, Henderson had a collection featured during the Fall 2010 New York Fashion Week, and he has developed his own line inspired by SolarWorld that features his fresh take on the little black dress.

Tickets for the show are $5 for students and $10 for the general public and can be purchased at the Memorial Union Box Office or by calling the Student Entertainment Committee at 401.874.5298.
