KINGSTON, R.I.—January 28, 2008— In conjunction with the Rhode Island Music Educators High School Jazz Festival at the University of Rhode Island, the Joe Parillo Trio will perform Saturday, February 2, at 8 p.m. The trio will perform original pieces by Parillo, a Grammy-nominated composer and standards from the American Song Book. The concert will take place in the concert hall of the URI Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Rd, Kingston. General admission is $8, students $2. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Box office opens 45 minutes before the concert.

The trio consists of Joe Parillo -piano, Bryan Rizzuto -bass, and Alex Chapman –drums. It has been performing for the past six years and has appeared on many stages throughout New England. This eclectic group of musicians is preparing to go into the studio this year to record its first CD for release in the fall for Neoga Records.

Parillo is an award-winning pianist, recording artist, and composer who is also director of the URI Jazz Studies Program. He has performed nationally and internationally with his own ensembles and also with the Glenn Miller Orchestra and with vibraphonist Jay Hoggard. He has written and arranged music for theater, films, and television, and has recorded numerous CDs.

Rizzuto has performed with blues legend Al Copley (founder of the group Roomful of Blues), as has his father, bass-player Dave Rizzuto. He has also performed with East Coast Johnny and more. While Alex Chapman’s drumming background is primarily jazz, he also has performed with the band Of The Hour, which melds experimental rock, jazz-fusion, electronic and metal influences into their own unique sound. In addition to the Joe Parillo Trio, he performs with Angel Side, Electrio, and other bands.
