Orchestra Concert to Feature Soloist Winners, March 6

Kingston, R.I. – February 17, 2010 – A dozen student musicians auditioned for the annual Student Soloist Competition at the University of Rhode Island, but in the end, only two could be the winners. They are sophomore Ethan Cafferky of Coventry, French horn, and junior Allison Parramore of Norfolk, MA, flute, who will be featured performers for the URI Symphony Orchestra concert on Saturday, March 6.


The concert will be held at 8 p.m. in the URI Fine Arts Center Concert Hall at 105 Upper College Road, Kingston. Ann Danis, URI’s Director of Orchestral Activities, will conduct. Admission is $8 general public, $2 students, with tickets available at the box office on a first-come basis starting 45 minutes before the concert.


The concert program includes Ms. Parramore, a Music Performance major, performing the first movement of the Concerto for Flute in G Major by Carl Stamitz, and Mr. Cafferky, a Music Education major, performing the Concerto for Horn by Gordon Jacob. In addition, the orchestra will perform the Mala Suite of Witold Lutoslawski and the Finale of the Robert Schumann Symphony #2.


The URI Concert Hall is handicap-accessible, and parking is available in the lot behind the Fine Arts Center, off Bills Road.
